Hey, I’m Lauren!

Welcome to The Weeknd Whisk;
I’m so glad you’ve found
your way here.

As you mosey your way around my page, my hope is that The Weeknd Whisk will bring you and your favorite people together to bake, eat and enjoy the most delicious treats around the table. Whether it’s family dinner, your bff’s birthday, a bachelorette party, a baby shower or a cabin weeknd in the woods, these recipes will have everyone drooling.

So, a little bit about me. I am a home-baker, cat lover and creative millennial living in Washington, DC. Growing up in Texas and having family roots in Mexico, I’m pretty sure I learned how to make a breakfast taco before pouring a bowl of cereal. Although when my lips first touched Reese’s Puffs, I couldn’t be tamed.

Some of my first memories in the kitchen, were some of my fondest. Every Christmas morning, my sisters, cousins and I would make my grandma’s delicious and fluffy homemade waffles. I can still smell them fresh off the waffle iron as we argued who would set the table while listening to Christmas carols on my Mimo’s old cassette player. Anyone remember those Billy Gilman and Raffi tunes?

Aside from eating Kid Cuisines and Lunchables behind my mom’s back, my house frequented Southern comforts and Tex-Mex classics like Frito pie, King Ranch Chicken Casserole, pozole, fajitas and my mom’s award-winning Mexican rice.

“When I’m not in the kitchen, you can find me exploring the outdoors with my adventure kitty Beau.”

Now as I’ve grown up, I’ve loved traveling and expanding my palate to more Latin cuisine. One of my favorite and most memorable meals was boating through the bluest ocean I’ve ever laid eyes on in Belize and finding a small and isolated caye to hunker down for lunch. What was on the menu? Freshly caught and speared lobster slathered with melted butter and garlic, barbequed cream corn and a chilled rum and coke. Pura vida.

Once my brother-in-law virtually taught me how to make sourdough bread during the pandemic, baking became an obsession. Recreating nostalgic foods like pop-tarts, popsicles, pretzels and elevating them has been a blast.

I have a wildly cute cooking assistant, Beau, who you’ll probably see in the kitchen with me or on walks (yes, he’s leash trained) as we hand-deliver whisk-y treats.

Thanks for dropping by, and let’s bake together!
